    Posing Music...

Ok ladies (and gents) I know I am not the only one looking for just the right posing music...and frankly I can't afford to spend 100+ bucks to get a mix made for me (nor would I if I could afford it LOL)...so I have been listening to tons of stuff. My fav one so far is this
Christina Aguilera - Express (Burlesque) - YouTube

Bob says it sounds like stripper music...I say it has perfect beat for me...and I think I would probably strip out the majority of the vocals...but what do you think?

Post up what you like...what you have used or are going to use..or any ideas. If you think my pick sounds too "stripper"..don't be afraid to say so

A couple notes - make sure your cut is within the time they require - you don't want to run over. The other thing is be prepared, if the entry form says 60 sec routine, they may chop it to 45 sec. I've seen it happen before the day of the show. So have a shorter version ready if you need it .

Thanks. The entry form says no more than 90 seconds, I figured I might go for 60-75 seconds since "no more than" means perhaps I can go shorter LOL.

Call the promoter and see what they recommend. I haven't done a 90 sec routine in 5 years. Assume 60 or less. If you don't and get to the show and discover they've chopped it short, they will simply stop your music at the requisite time and leave you standing on stage.

i love the music you picked shan.. i chose joan jetts "do you wanna touch me" in november for the easterns...

besides listening to everything sassy is saying, i would also advise you to go with music that you "feel"... otherwise you can look very choppy on stage... its nerve wracking enough without using music you arent in sync with..

ftr, the easterns allowed for the full 90 seconds, but like sassy mentioned, i have seen the time cut last minute.. even the day of the show i double checked with the sound guy

good luck and let us know what you choose

I talked with the promoter and he said the 90 seconds was never cut down and that they wouldnt cut you short unless you just drug it out forever LOL. I am going to try to get a good 75-90 second piece of the song cropped out to go with.

i just listened to it shan and i really like it.. if it were me, i would use the beginning of the song because of the slower bpm, but thats mostly because if i tried to pose to the faster beat i would wind up like a pretzel on the stage ..

i dont think its too stripper-ish at all... i love when fbb's prove how sexy muscle really is...

bring your "a" game and knock it out of the ball park girl!!

I am kinda wigging out over the whole posing thing...I am having trouble figuring out just how to fill 60-90 seconds with suitable posing. Seriously, I have all of these poses I want to include, but putting them together to the music is gonna be a challenge LOL..methinks I could use a choreographer LOL.

There are some good BB choreographers out there. I like Michelle Brent's work. And she's one of the sweetest people I've ever met.

I will repeat that if you're doing an NPC show, your chances of needing to do a 90 sec routine is about zero. JMHO. Expect more like 45-60 sec.

An easy way to start building a routine is to start w/ your mandatories in quarter turns. I.e.:

    - Decide first if you want them to start the music w/ you walking from the side of the stage, or w/ you already at center stage. (And indicate it on your CD and talk to the sound guy when you are lining up for your round.)

    - Start facing front:
    -- Front dbl bi
    -- front lat
-Qtr turn to the right (facing side)
    -- side chest
    -- side tri
    -Qtr turn to the rear
    -- rear dbl bi
    -- rear lat
    - Qtr turn to the right (facing side)
    -- side chest
    -- side tri
    - Qtr turn back to the front
    -- abs & thighs
    -- whatever else

You can cut out or insert whatever you want on each quarter turn. This covers all of the mandatories and additionally leaves you option to insert whatever fav poses you have, or exclude the ones you don't like, since the whole point of the free pose is to present your best stuff.

My general guidance is to hold each pose for a 3-count (i.e. 1-one thousand, 2-one thousand, 3-one thousand). This helps pace you to avoid losing track of where you are in the music (also if the sound system chokes in the middle of it or skips & you lose your music cues), and also keeps you from going too fast or too slow. I tend to go too fast when I'm onstage so this keeps things in order. It also paces you so you can actually finish your routine where the music ends instead of looking like they just shut off the music & you weren't done yet. Everyone wants that dramatic end! And lastly, it means that anyone taking photos can get a clean shot. I think of every pose as a photo-op, so hold it accordingly.

So w/ this guidance, if you follow the quarter turn approach, all you need to do is work on smooth transitions in your quarter turns & from pose to pose and you can generally expect to get in 7-8 clean poses in 60 seconds.

thanks sassy! If I don't get my routine nailed down I may use this very method LOL. I do have a posing coach I am going to work with, so hopefully he can be helpful with the routine...I know the main poses that I want to present and just need to figure out the transitions and timing with the music (which I still haven't gotten trimmed to my liking LOL).
