1. , there's nothing wrong with "red meat". In fact, there are some cuts of red meat that are just as lean if not leaner than chicken breast, so trying to lump all red meat into one category is the equivalent of saying "carbs make you fat". Let's consider the source.
2., what is "animal fat"? Although the term is used interchangeably with saturated fat, not all "animal fat" is saturated. In fact, more than HALF the fat in beef is unsaturated.
Oh, and here's another fact even beyond that—not all saturated fat is bad. The problem with most saturated fats is that they have been shown to be linked to heart disease when consumed in higher quantities. That said, the main saturate found in beef (especially organic grass fed beef) is stearic acid—a saturate consumption has been shown to decrease plasma and liver cholesterol by reducing intestinal cholesterol absorption.
That's right, "animal fat" that lowers cholesterol.
Also, stearic acid intake helps to prevent arterial clotting and the formation of fatty deposits within the arteries to fight off heart disease.
So what about you? Have you ever bought into the anti-beef advocates claims?
I love beef. i eat it every day. I like the taste of grass fed beef better for sure too. much better taste and better for you. if i am eating grass fed, i usually eat a fattier cut to take advantage of the good fats.
i grew up on home raised beef and will alway be a huge proponent of it!
fat is what gives beef its flavor and makes it naturally tender. that is why the better well marbled cuts grade higher.. ahhhhhh steak sounds good!
What I think is the evil is if when the more a food is touched by man, the more natural healthy aspects of it are removed. Im one that eats clean all the time, I dont compete anymore , but even when I did, I cant stand over thinking, over analyszing and writing too much info all the time- I want to live and train no spend all my time weighing measuring etc - As long as I stick to portion control, natural non-processed foods- no flour porducts of any kind - I lose fat and get strong. I admire those that go all out , I just have no desire to get so inundated with overwhelming myself.
Great post ketsugo.I love meat and strongly urge any BBer wanting to make gains to include it in their diet.Too much positive nutritional value to not include it.
Lean beef and veal seared on the grill = mmmm!
I eat red meat occasionally but prefer chicken, pork and fish for my meat intake.
Meat puts the meat in meathead![]()
Grass Fed beef for the CLA's... Excellent stuff.
What kind of cuts are you guys eating? I usually stick with sirloin, tenderloin, flank steak and brisket...
Flank is my go to meat but I've been eating some boneless beef ribs the last couple of days. I really want to learn how to properly make brisket, I know I love it when it's done right and tender!
Love brisket as well.Just don't eat it as much as other cuts.Agreed though Halo,it is awesome when done right.
I usually get a half a steer from a farmer I know. True organic fed. He grows there feed and does not believe in chemicals in food. Tastes so good.
got a smoker? 225 degrees fat side up. BBQ is one of the easiest things to do well but for some reason people have tons of problems with it. Low and slow it will come out great. Don't take it out right when it reaches temp either. give it a little more time to melt down the fat.
NY Strip or T-Bone. I usually eat 24oz when steak is for supper (or order 2 steaks at restaurants).
Also, stearic acid is found in REAL butter-not that shit called "butter" but is full of vegetable oils. Butter=cream, salt.
