    Cool the science of art

hi all, i'm new here, and new to lifting, going to the gym, all of it.

i just lost 18 lbs on the HCG diet and i finally feel like i can control what i eat and move my body. its a triumph after years of unhealthiness.

so now i'm here at the iron den, about to kick some serious gym ASS!!!

GOALS: tone up my back, arms, and abs. also, gain lots of muscle in my butt so that its higher and rounder, and lose some body fat - don't know how much yet.

in 5 and a half weeks i'm going to a place where i have to look hot in a bikini so i think i have time for some major changes.

    WORKOUT SCHEDULE:
30-45 min cardio every morning, it wakes me up and makes me feel good and i haven't been able to do it in a while because of the HCG diet i was on, so i'm excited to get back into it. then i go to work. in the afternoon it'll go like this:
MON: incline walking to warm up, SQUATS, LUNGES, BACK EXTENTION, KROC ROWS, PULL DOWNS
    TUES: PILATES
    WED: same as mon
    THURS: PILATES
    FRI: PILATES
SAT: same as mon and wed, but going a little harder and adding in new things i've learned about during the week
    SUN: REST

i nap as often as i can, usually twice a week, probably more if i do this workout schedule, i can see it making me tired... and i don't have a very difficult job - i'm an actor and a real estate agent. also i love eating healthy food now, so i know i can do this.

this plan won't start properly for a couple of weeks though because on tuesday i'm going to miami, i'll try to do workouts while i'm there that are comparable to this, but honestly i'll be working out a lot more than this since i won't be at work while i'm there. i'll obviously be writing about those workouts here.

i really think now that i've lost all this weight and i've gotten to a size 4 that the look that i want is a more muscular look - i always thought i'd be happy with my body if i just got thin, and i'm SO happy with my body, i was totally right -- but now i want to be ECSTATIC about my body.

thanks for reading, and for being so welcoming, everyone i've talked to so far has been really informed and nice. i can't wait to meet even more people and i'm really excited to get strong and toned!!

    xoxo

PoB - thank you for all of the information about the ketogenic diet, ladies and men have been guide-er-ific!!!
AllTheWay - thanks for the welcome, i definitely want to keep this size 4, i bought new clothes and im giving the old ones away to the veterans association!!
    SHINE - thank you!!
Lizard King - it depends on the day, but if i really need one, i can usually find a way to excuse myself from the office... i nap at home only, though, its a very personal thing. unfortunately i've had too little sleep for 3 days and there's no nap in sight.. today is packed, tomorrow is worse... sigh... thanks for the welcome!!
Ms Wetback - thanks for the welcome!

    -----------------------

I dont have much to say here today except that i think moving forward that i'm going to keep editing my first post of the day with my menu and work out info to save space, instead of constantly writing new updates...

wow, it's so nice to have so many people say hello when i'm still just getting started!

    MENU:
8:45am coffee and chocolate whey protein shake with whole milk and 1T ground flax seed 510 cals
2:15pm 6oz 0% fage yogurt with strawberries and blueberries 160 cals
5pm think thin bar and half an apple 290 cals
8:30pm strawberries and whey protein shake with whole milk, pistachio nuts, piece of sugar free chocolate 530 cals

totals: 1,490 cals 140g protein, 60g fat, 113g carbs incl. 57g sugars and 15g fiber

    WORK OUT:
    8:10am light stretching
    12:30-2 pilates

    --------------

i feel pretty good about my day, pilates was good, kind of easy today, but i still felt it -- i ate enough, but i didn't over-eat. i'll MAYBE have 6oz of fage before bed IF i get hungry again, which i don't think i will.

tomorrow is going to be a mess as i'm going out of town tomorrow night. i still haven't packed or turned the milk and cream and eggs in my fridge into something freezeable - looks like i'll have to make sugar free ice cream later as i dont have any sugar in the house... i do have some cocoa powder, maybe i'll be able to make a flourless chocolate cake, i dont have any flour either.
i also have to pack tonight, i wont have time after work tomorrow, i'll have to come home, grab my suitcase, and run...

Pilates - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

its a core workout that i really love because you lengthen the muscles as you work them, rather than crunching and bulking them... you end up with the muscles of a dancer... or like madonna (who kind of over-does it) cuz she takes her pilates machines with her on tour... you dont need machines you can do the exercises on a mat, but the machines have springs for added resistance.

Pilates was designed by Joseph Pilates, a physical-culturist born in Mönchengladbach, Germany in 1883. He developed a system of exercises during the first half of the 20th century which were intended to strengthen the human mind and body. Joseph Pilates believed that mental and physical health are inter-related.[3]

He had practiced many of the physical training regimes which were available in Germany in his youth, and it was out of this context that he developed his own work, which has clear connections with the physical culture of the late nineteenth century such as the use of specially invented apparatuses and the claim that the exercises could cure illness. It is also related to the tradition of "corrective exercise" or "medical gymnastics" which is typified by Pehr Henrik Ling.

Joseph Pilates published two books in his lifetime which related to his training method: Your Health: A Corrective System of Exercising That Revolutionizes the Entire Field of Physical Education (1934) and Return to Life through Contrology (1945). In common with early C20 physical culture, Pilates had an extremely high regard for the Greeks and the physical prowess demonstrated in their Gymnasium.

The first generation of students, many of them dancers, who studied with Joseph Pilates and went on to open studios and teach the method are collectively known as The Elders and the most prominent include: Romana Kryzanowska, Kathy Grant, Jay Grimes, Ron Fletcher, Maja Wollman, Mary Bowen, Carola Treir, Bob Seed, Eve Gentry, Bruce King, Lolita San Miguel and Mary Pilates (the niece of Joseph and Clara). Modern day pilates styles, both "traditional" and "contemporary", are derived from the teaching of these first generation students.

The method was originally confined to the few and normally practiced in a specialized studio, but with time this has changed and pilates can now be found in community centers, gyms and physiotherapy rooms as well as in hybrid practice such as yogilates and in newly developed forms such as the Menezes Method. The “traditional” form still survives and there are also a variety of “contemporary” schools, such as Stott Pilates, which have adapted the system in different ways.
