Hey all. I post my log over on EliteFTS so here I will simply post a link to the entry. I will add any additional insight and thoughts but the major reason I like to post with RR is for the tomfoolery and consistent feedback and connections.
Right now my training is very flexible. I am taking a break and getting back to my "roots" of lifting, meaning to reconnect that I enjoy it. Programming was suffocating me and I needed a break. Right now I am systematically overloading myself, training at least 2 x's per week back to back in order to prepare for my nationals training cycle which will begin in early August.
My split right now is: pressing, next day DL, day off, squat, day off then strongman event training, day off. The second week I do my pressing followed by squats the next day. Nationals will be a 2 day competition so I am working on preparing myself for those demands.
Here's how tonight's training went down.
Pressing & Programming
Awesome looking work Amma, I'm always in for watching someone get their numbers up!!! Big Numbers, get after it!
copy and paste for all of the lazy people that wont clickthese women are awesome and so very strong!
Took me until after 9 tonight to get out to lift. No reason except my body is tired and I procrastinated until the bitter end. Stuck in there like a champ and got my stuff done. Operation Beat Down will conclude this week and then I will rest next week.
Still training Pseudo Columbu and really enjoying the freedom and flexibility. The bubble is bursting, it's almost time to jump back into a real program.
As I decide which way to go, I went back and read some suggestions from Dave. One thing stood out....
"Just remember you can only do so many things at once. Pick the most important and build them up"
I have shared my goal list with you already and I am sticking true to it. The problem is I love numbers. I want BIG numbers. With everything. Otherwise I might as well start running or knitting. There is no other purpose to lift for me.
Working 70% ish range.
Push Press
Worked triples then singles up to 155
Strict Press
115, 2x3
105, 1x3
Overhead DB Press
30, 3x10
Crucifix Hold - Still feeling out implements and the best way to train this.
2 sets x30 sec
1 set x 1 min.
Front Squats
or....
Last week I did press/DL back to back so this week was press/squat back to back. Press/squat is is much easier to pull off even though yesterday I was feeling some pretty tired legs.
Front Squats - worked triples then singles on my way up to 235. Had a ton more in the tank and really wish I wasn't training alone. I find that often I stop at weights due to "safety" rather than keep pushing because I am training alone.
GM - 195, 3x3
GHR - 3x6
Cut it short due to other places I need to be.
Tonight I tried Biotest Anaconda 1lb 13.7oz. Loved it. Chicks are horrible at needing to pee during lifting. We have a fear of being "that" girl who peed herself during a lift and it being caught on camera.
I've seen plenty of those vids and I never, ever want to be her. So...the down side was lots of pee breaks.
Now to finish things off with a little Biotest Mag-10
Ended the workout loading a lawn mower into the truck alone. That is a great example of a time that pulling "the girl card" is appropriate.
what is GHR?
there is nothing worse than having to pee during a workout, ok, nothing worse than peeing during a workout but having to interrupt ones workout to pee is probably close
i saw you carry the mens conan wheel, i think you probably handled that lawnmower with total authority![]()
LOl great job on the front squats.I need to get mine up.I am enbarrassed to admit this(especially after reading what you worked up to) I put 135 on and immediatly dumped it.I am sure it will go for reps next week but it was so out of whack .
The box squatting has made me retard when it comes to regular stance squatting.I am trying to at least do some sort of a quad based squat as a secondary to the box squats.
I have noticed tremendous improvement with hip strength with the box squat. So while a loss on overall squatting, bonus for the hips. Michael Keck (raw PL) talked about box squatting being counterproductive for a raw lifter but great for geared lifters. I agree and have seen a decline in my overall squat BUT....the gains in hip strength has been worthwhile. However, I do have that 600 squat I want to achieve so it's less box squatting.
Ended up lifting for the third day in a row. Got to say, for the short term it's working. For the long term I am sure it will be detrimental.

YESSSS!! DL
Oh man, things are coming back together. It feels awesome to be back on track.
DL - worked triples then singles. Ended at 400
Double Overhand Axle, 18" pulls
Ended at 250! HUGE! That puts me back where I was. Elbow held in there like a champ.
Axle 18" Pulls
Worked my way up.
390x5
400x3
Thoughts:
-My grip is coming back. It makes a girl very happy. It was able to hang in there like a champ until it finally gave out on the final set of 400.
-I've procrastinated enough. It's time to learn how to use straps. With nats in mind, I need to learn how to use them for any type of benefit I can get. As much as it pains me to go down this road, I will start using them on my next cycle. I've tried to avoid them at all costs. It's time to get over it.
-THIS is the training I love. I know it's not realistic for the long term but I am having fun in the process.
-I had a pretty good week lifting, even with 3 days in a row.
-Two days rest, maybe some sled pulling and then headed to Reno for some killer training!
Great workouts Amma and great log, keep it up I'm inspired!
My deadlift by far is stronger than my grip.I think what holds people back gripwise is they use the straps for everything.I only use them when my grip fails.i know there are a ton of arguments out there but that is my stance on using them.
Thanks Halo! I appreciate the kind words.
RR...sort of like the Pulling The Trigger vid, except it's straps. hahaha
I think I've taken my grip as far as I can and am only benefitting myself for kicks and giggles. It's time to step it up. I do think people rely far too much on using straps without properly developing their grip. I guess in strongman it's somewhat ok. Obviously with ambitions in PL, if you can't hold the bar you can't DL. Period.
look into the versa gripps, they are easy and easier to get tight and take almost no time.
nice deads. trying to decide if i am going to do a dead day!
Went to Reno over the weekend to train at American Iron. There are a couple pics and posts over EliteFTS - Superior Products and Knowledge for Lifters, Athletes, Coaches, and Trainers there.
Here is the specific information regarding my training.
This past weekend we headed down to American Iron in Reno to meet up with Chad Aichs and my strongman people.
Let me just say, I really had a good time. I figured we would hook up for dinner on Friday night, train for a little bit on Saturday and then maybe go out for dinner. I am pretty sure with the exception of a short nap and minimal sleep each night, Chad and company totally gave up what they were doing to hang out for the entire weekend. That was awesome. Or maybe I am just so cool like that they couldn't get enough. Yeah, that's probably it.
Saturday's training was cool. There was a 12", 100 lb monster dumbbell I was messing with. I was able to get it to the shoulder but the awkwardness of it stalled things right there.
Moved on to the yoke to do my max pick. Was able to lock out 855 and pick 905 but no lock out.
We went inside and Chad helped me with my squat form. For like 2 hours or something crazy. By that point I was so tired and we were 5 hours into training. I messed around with the mono lift and we called it a day.
The Big Guy seems to have a new fettish with stone loading for height. I don't get it but I think he's angling for total incapacitation with something falling on his head. He loves pressing things over head and every now and then they do land on him.
I keep telling him if he dies lifting I am totally ok with it. But he better die. Cuz I am not keen on the idea of taking care of him in a wheelchair and changing diapers for doing something dumb.
This was actually pretty funny.

BTW...American Iron is a dream come true. Everyone should have a place like that to train. I was blown away. And you probably need to know that Chad likes to talk about himself a lot and I got the impression that he thinks he is a super hero or something. Good thing I was there to set it all straight.
Thanks for the write-up on your time in Reno, it was really cool! Will have to visit American Iron someday to get more ideas for the future gym business.
