I have always used conv. deadlifts. Last week I used sumo deads and I was really sore so I keep hem in this week and might just do them for a couple of months just for a change.
I like to do both. Mixing it up has helped with both lifting styles. By trial and error, I found the sumos to be more comfortable for me. I'm short with a big gut, the conventional was harder to get a decent grip. With sumo, I still use the over/under grip, and it feels more natural for me anyway. I'm able to pull about 50% more with sumo vs. conv.
I think in general you can pull more using a sumo stance with a few weeks of training. A deadlift suit offers more benefit using a sumo stance as well. Presonally I pull conventionally.
My knees get shakey when I go heavy on conv. deads , so for me I go sumo, I feel more stable

Yeah sure bro whatever you say![]()
ever since I had a knee replacement I find it is less stressfull to go sumo style
Good squatters are usually good sumo pullers. Guys like me, who have strong backs & weak hips and who squat 100+ lbs less than they deadlift, usually do better conventional. Not a hard fast rule but worth mentioning.
