HCG and Spermatogenesis
Interesting article here about HCG ability of stimulating spermatogenesis. These guys apparently found that in patients that went hypogonadal after puberty, HCG was 100% effective in stimulating spermatogenesis, although we are talking about a small sample size (6). In the ones that went hypogonadal during puberty, HMG was required. The ones that had a testicle missing from the scrotum on top of that were in trouble though...

Maybe good news to anyone on HRT trying to knock the old lady up lol.

Stimulation of Spermatogenesis by Gonadotropins in Men with Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism

David M. Finkel, M.D., Jennifer L. Phillips, B.A., and Peter J. Snyder, M.D.

N Engl J Med 1985; 313:651-655September 12, 1985
Abstract

We evaluated the efficacy of gonadotropin treatment in stimulating spermatogenesis in men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. When 21 men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism were treated with human chorionic gonadotropin, the sperm count increased to within the normal range in the 6 in whom hypogonadism had begun after puberty, but in only 1 of the 15 in whom it had begun before puberty (P<0.002). When the remaining 14 men with prepubertal hypogonadism were treated with human menopausal gonadotropin in addition to human chorionic gonadotropin, the sperm count increased to normal in 5 of the 7 who had not had cryptorchidism, but in only 1 of the 7 who had (P<0.05). The need for human menopausal gonadotropin as a replacement for follicle-stimulating hormone could not be predicted by pretreatment serum and urinary levels of follicle-stimulating hormone.

We conclude that gonadotropin treatment will usually increase the sperm count to normal in men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, unless cryptorchidism has occurred. The need for human menopausal gonadotropin treatment appears to depend on the time of onset of hypogonadism. (N Engl J Med 1985; 313:651–5.)

Interesting. My wife and i have been trying for a couple years now for kid #2 with no luck. My test resulte were in the high normal range but she is ovulating irregularly. I have been looking into ways to increase our odds some on my own and this looks like a valid option. How were these guys dosed?

it will increase the sperm count alot but it takes about 3-4months to really get the full effect going. I used it because me and my wife had fertility issues and I was on HRT (androgel).

What protocol did your Fertility Specialist use for the HCG?

the first couple of docs never tested her for it because she was thin, no facial hair, or other physical signs. the last doc has said she has some minor symptoms that may lead him to believe she has a mild case of pcos. Well i listen well and can google as good as the docs and she has more than a few symptoms that point to pcos. Please suggest away

Shine: Would the dosing or HMG be the same protocol as on cycle HCG dosing?

let me dig up the old paperwork on it bro. I know i was dosing 3 times a week at first then dropped to two but have to look back for the iu of each dose. My wife self medicated with a trigger shot as well to make more eggs release, HCG does that for women too. I will get back tomorrow with some info for you guys.
