The Growth Hormone releasing system consists of three major players: Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone, Somatostatin and Somatotrophs (Growth Hormone Releasing Cells).

Pushing beyond the above vocabulary… The process is simple… Somatotrophs manufacture and release GH. The process of GH release is controlled through two peptides; GHRH and somatostatin.

A natural release of GH will follow a semi predictable periodic schedule; producing peaks and troughs. With the largest bout of GH being released through the first, third and fourth phase of sleep. Between sleep cycles GH release depends on a multitude of factors: exercise, nutrition, age, etc.

Factors, like the above, feed into the brain; providing information which produces downstream changes in GHRH and somatostatin presence. Think of these two peptides as your gas and break pedal. GHRH drives forward GH release but may only do so when somatostatin (break) presence in minimal.

With the above stated it’s important to realize GH serves a purpose. Post release… GH will visit numerous sites around the body; binding to receptors and telling machinery downstream the receptor what to do. Things like increased protein synthesis, lipolysis, and promotion of gluconeogenesis.

These actions prove potent stimulators for overall well being through healing, youthful restoration and body sculpting.
